英国时间今天（5月24日）上午10点刚过，特雷莎·梅就站在了唐宁街10号门口那个令人熟悉又陌生的小发言台前，宣布——今年6月7日正式卸任保守党领导人和英国首相的职位。

掐指一算，加上辞职当天和今天，梅姨还有15天的首相可以当，其中包含计划在她辞职当周举办的脱欧协议草案第四次下议院投票表决。
说起来其实这个辞职的时间安排并不令人惊讶，因为早前她即将辞职的消息刚传出的时候，说法就是她将在6月3-7日之间正式宣布离任，现在不过提前给下任首相竞选提前打出了那发“起跑枪”。

压倒她“最后一根稻草”让梅姨提前宣布辞职的，是当年曾经和她竞争过首相岗位的安德里亚·利德索姆（Andrea Leadsom），本周宣布辞去她下议院领导人的职位。
这不仅让英政府决定延迟公布梅姨的脱欧协议细则，也让保守党内加快了给梅姨施压让她“下台”的力度。

2016年保守党领导人竞选过程中，利德索姆与鲍里斯是最后剩下和梅姨争夺首相“宝座”的人，不过他俩最后都选择了退出竞争，把梅姨“保送”了上去。图：每日快报
梅姨辞职刚结束，利德索姆还发了一条推文，表示梅姨的辞职讲话内容“相当有尊严”，体现出了梅姨“对这个国家和她个人职责的全情投入”，还说她“已经倾尽全力”。

这样一来，特雷莎·梅也就以2年329天的执政时间，正式成为了1900年以来任期第六短的英国首相，比第五短的戈登·布朗也就多出9天。

自从我第一次以首相身份走进我身后这扇门，我就一直努力让英国成为一个不仅是少数特权群体、每一个人能过得好的国家。
Ever since I first stepped through the door behind me as prime minister, I have striven to make the United Kingdom a country that works not just for a privileged few, but for everyone.
我也一直尊重脱欧公投的结果。
And to honour the result of the EU referendum.
2016年，我们给了英国人民一个选择。
Back in 2016, we gave the British people a choice.
与所有预测相悖的是，英国人投票选择了离开欧盟。
Against all predictions, the British people voted to leave the European Union.
我现在和三年前一样坚定地相信，在这个民主社会，如果你给了人民一个选择，那你就有责任执行他们的决定。我为此已经尽力了。
I feel as certain today as I did three years ago that, in a democracy, if you give people a choice you have a duty to implement what they decide. I have done my best to do that.

I negotiated the terms of our exit and a new relationship with our closest neighbours that protects jobs, our security and our Union.
